AKB-48 is a synthetic cannabinoid that was originally discovered in Japan. It is said that the compound was named after a famous Japanese pop band of the same name. The 5F-AKB48 is a fluorinated version of the former. Chemically, it is known as 1 – pentyl -N- tricyclo [220.127.116.11, 7] dec -1- yl – 1H – indazole -3- carboxamide. It is available in a powder form through different research chemicals manufacturers and is commonly referred to as APINACA.
5F-AKB48 has the molecular representation C23H30FN3O which is a slight modification to its parent compound C23H31N3O. The added fluorine provides APINACA a distinct set of properties that were absent in AKB-48. Due to increased drug abuse, the AKB-48 was classified as a controlled substance and subsequently banned in many countries. The fluorine enables the 5F-AKB48 to be classified as a different drug, although it can be used for the same purposes. Due to this reason, this compound has attracted great attention from researchers across the world. However, it is manufactured for only research purposes, and any form of human consumption is strictly prohibited.
Since cannabinoids are derived from the cannabis plant, this synthetic cannabinoid also replicates the effects of marijuana. The endocannabinoids CB-1 and CB-2 seem to respond quite well to this compound. Unfortunately, there has been no scientific literature released regarding this product and researchers would have to rely on the anecdotal reports for a while. And since human consumption is prohibited due to the potential hazards involved, the in vivo and in vitro activities of 5F-AKB48 could be determined by using a synthetic membrane infused with receptor cannabinoids. Researchers could also perform experiments such as gas chromatography – mass spectrometry, high performance liquid chromatography, fourier transform infra red spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy using this synthetic cannabinoid.
The 5F-AKB48 is derived from various herbal blends and its psycho active effects are said to resemble the effects of cannabis. Although, available for research, this compound is also controlled due to its potential to be abused. Researchers should note that the synthesis of this product is performed in high standard laboratories which make the end product extremely potent and pure. A slight change in the dose could have unexpected results. Therefore, it is absolutely prohibited and discouraged to administer this compound to human test subjects.
Researchers can easily place an order for this synthetic cannabinoid on many of the research chemicals providers websites and get it delivered. However, it is the responsibility of the buyer to ensure all the laws and legislations of his/her state are being met. This product could be employed for multiple research purposes. It can be used to understand the behavior of the neurotransmitters in the brain or as a simple reagent in laboratory experiments. It could even have an application for medical sciences. Whatever the case, it is advised to take safety precautions such as wearing a gas mask and safety goggles during the experiment, to avoid exposure and inconsistent results.
Chemical Services does not advise human consumption of this or any research chemical on sale on our website and is against our policy as advised in our Terms and Conditions.
